NOTE: Yes, I know he looks a bit “Lick my chest for I am a sexy god” in the photos. Unfortunately, they’re some of the clearest pictures I could find.

College, Job, or Both:
Chad is a double major, psychology and sociology. The former doesn’t have anything to do with his weakness for small furry animals. Right.

Chad also works at Shady Oaks funeral home/mortuary as a gravedigger

Hobbies/Extracurricular Activities: Despite his rather busy schedule, Chad definitely makes time for a few extracurricular activities. Playing the guitar is forefront in his interests, and he is a reasonably accomplished bassist and lead (both acoustic and electric). The band of which he was a part in high school has long since broken up, but the idea of starting one back up brews in the back of his mind often. Along this vein, he has recently started to frequent the poetry club, though more to enjoy the poetry of others (and to scout out possible songwriters/singers) than to contribute any verse of his own. To provide an outlet for his considerable physical prowess that does not include digging ditches (graves or otherwise) Chad is also a member of the martial arts club.

Brief History:

A fiery and fatal car crash robbed Chad of his parents at a rather young age. His only memory of his mother is of her soft sweet powdery scent and her warmth as she cradled him to her chest and kissed the curly mop of his hair. He has no recollection of his father, whatsoever. The untimely accident was initially thought to have a criminal element, however the Sado case has since been relegated to the drab, slightly moldy cardboard boxes containing hundreds of such suspicious-but-unsolved files. The only silvery lining to this misfortune came in the form of one Oscar Joaquin de la Rosa – Chad’s maternal grandfather.

De la Rosa was a strict but loving parent, and many of Chad’s early years were spent lollygagging in the shipyards, were Oscar worked, and helping out where he could in the fish slophouse. To this day Chad can gut and clean a fish in less than thirty seconds. Unfortunately, eighty-hour workweeks meant Oscar was rarely at home, and it allowed for far too much freedom in the growing boy. Chad quickly fell into bullying and he let his physical size outgrow his maturity by leaps and bounds. Fortunately, Chad’s grandfather was there to metaphorically give the boy a swift and morally righteous kick to the pants.

Figuratively speaking, Chad built a bridge and got over it, turning into an upstanding manling, the epitome of the gentle giant. Sadly, Oscar’s heath took a turn for the worse when Chad entered his early teens. The decline was mercifully rapid, but it left Chad an orphan at sixteen. Alas, not many wish to adopt a 6’5” brown teenager, and as a result, he was left mostly alone.

Academically, Chad possesses an intelligence that belies his size, and he has always done quite well in school. Though, honestly, his near eidetic memory has served him far more than simple IQ. He chews on information, metaphorically speaking, slowly and thoroughly, until it settles like so much silt in the vast beach of his mind. High school passed quickly, and save for an understandable drop in his grades around the time of his grandfather’s passing, Chad was able to enter college without trouble. A general fascination with people led him to major in sociology, and a chance encounter with a student carrying lab rats to the psych department led to his double major. Though scholarships could easily have helped to cover the cost of his academia, Chad prefers to work his way through school, in the tradition of the very best of self-sufficient hardworking people. Shady Oaks funeral home provides him with steady work, though his hours are erratic at best.

The written word has served the young man as a constant and readily available companion, easily carried to the docks and perused at leisure. For preference, Chad enjoys works of history, biography, mystery, and, incongruently, the kind of self-help books that contain “soup” in the title.

Socially, Chad has had the good fortune to meet and keep several close friends. He is a generally amiable person, albeit a laconic one, and once the bonds of camaraderie are forged in his heart, Chad tends to them with indefatigable diligence. He is trusting in the way the strong can afford to be.
